چکیده

A view-dependent multiresolution triangulation algorithm is presented for a real-time flythrough. The triangulation of the terrain is generated incrementally onthe-fly during the rendering time. We show that since the view changes smoothly only a few incremental modifications are required to update the triangulation to a new view. The resulting triangles form a multiresolution Delaunay triangulation which satisfies a predetermined view-dependent error tolerance. The presented method provides a guaranteed-quality mesh since it has control over the global geometric approximation error of the multiresolution view-dependent triangulation.

Geometry-based Mapping and Rendering of Vector Data over LOD Phototextured 3D Terrain Models

Interactive three-dimensional (3D) visualization of very large-scale grid digital elevation models coupled with corresponding high-resolution remote-sensing phototexture images is a hard problem. The graphics load must be controlled by an adaptive view-dependent surface triangulation and by taking advantage of different levels of detail (LODs) using multiresolution modeling of terrain geometry....

Real-Time Terrain Surface Extraction at Variable Resolution

Multiresolution terrain models allow the extraction of the surface at different levels of details. Real terrain data is large enough to prevent from real-time walk-through at a reasonable level of detail. Moreover, a coarse view of a terrain may not attend some application requirements. Therefore extracting the surface at variable resolution may offer impressive good-looking views if, for insta...

Real-Time Extendible-Resolution Display of On-line Dynamic Terrain

We present a method for multiresolution view-dependent real-time display of terrain undergoing on-line modification. In other words, the method does not assume static terrain geometry, nor does it assume that the terrain update sequence is known ahead of time. The method is both fast and space efficient. It is fast because it relies on local updates to the multiresolution structure as terrain c...

Top–Down View–Dependent Terrain Triangulation using the Octagon Metric

In this paper, we introduce the octagon metric as a useful distance metric for the interactive visualization of large–scale terrain data. Based on recursive bisection triangle meshes, this metric automatically ensures valid distance–dependent triangulations without cracks or T–junctions. We will show how the octagon metric can be used for view–dependent refinement at little computational cost a...

Reconstruction of Multiresolution Terrain Surfaces

Multiresolution surfaces are especially useful for fast rendering, real-time display and interactive manipulation of large and dense terrain surface models. This paper reviews major multiresolution terrain surface reconstruction techniques and analyses the corresponding data structures. We have proposed and implemented, based on Delaunay retriangulation, a greedy refinement algorithm with a str...
